My reading fluctuates between marketing, fashion/entertainment and various “new age” interests. An article that appeared in Fast Company Magazine was particularly unenlightening. It gave me some insight into what may be an underlying theme that is present in popular culture. The article introduced the concept of “mutual dislike” as it relates to brand preferences. I did a check of my own preferences and my own conversations–and I was a little guilty of applying this concept in my life..but I am going really try to keep this in check.
Here’s an excerpt: “A study published last year in the Journal of Personal Relationships looked at how friendships form and found that mutual dislike was an important factor. “We enjoy meeting people who dislike the same people,” explained Jennifer Bosson, a social psychologist and coauthor of the study, titled “Interpersonal Chemistry Through Negativity.”

The trend in yoga mats, just like fashion is all about layering. Checking around for a recommendation, I discovered Yogitoes. Not only will this added layer, prevent slipping while practicing yoga-it’s super absorbent, and puts a hygienic layer between you and your yoga mat. Available in great colors or select an “Altruistic option” –in pink, with $5 of each mat purchase going toward Breast Cancer Research. The company has a wonderful website, with great links and information as well as a great array of products for the fashion forward yogi.
This Wednesday nite at 7:30 pm at Devotion Yoga, Hoboken, NJ ! Tapas mean “heat” in Sanskrit—the studio brochure says it is “sweaty, creative Vinyasa flow class”..
I received a free sample of Luna Tea Cakes last week- ” a Tea infused baked snack” : Vanilla Macadamia -For Mood Balance. The package states the tea cake is made with The REPUBLIC of TEA and contains Mood-lifting Omega-3*, Vitamin D & Antioxidants from Rooibos Red Tea. “We invite you to savor a Luna Moment of mood-balancing bliss”. I thought the tea cake was tasty, not sure about how it affected my mood- but I have been looking for a store that sells them ever since my first bite.

Have you ever wanted to go away for a few days-but you don’t want to overspend on a high priced spa experience? I found a unique, relaxing and hip hotel in the backyard of the South Beach. The room I have is $195 per night and the spa is as cool as they come. I did a Yoga Class with an Anusara Instructor-Victoria on an outdoor deck overlooking the bay that started at 4 and ended with a stunning Florida sunset. The hotel has wireless internet throughout the hotel and there are amazing nooks and crannies, a beautiful pool with an underwater sound system. On Friday night, the spa offers H2-OM at 8pm-where yogis, live musicians and DJ’s create a one of a kind experience of yoga and a spa bathing immersion. After that you are on your own to chill at the 24 hour pool or hit South Beach to check out the scene.

Nish Joshi is a Celebrity guru who has opened a Wellness Centre: a gym and yoga studio with Programs tailored to an individual’s health needs. He fuses a truly “holistic” prescription for his clients that includes -natural remedies, diet, accupunture, yoga, massage, postural training. For example, if your sugar levels are out of control, exercise could make you feel even more tired, so before your workout he may recommend an isotonic drink. So, in addition to the stuff that Joshi ordinarily recommends to his high profile, exhausted, stressed-out clients (diets, colonic irrigation, acupuncture) they’ll now be able to pick up a prescription for exercise at the same time. ‘It’s about giving people tangible help,’ he says.

According to a recent article in the The Economic Times from India, “Many translate Yoga as “union”. Please understand, Yoga is not “union”. It is “uniting”. Yoga is not a noun. Yoga is a verb. Yoga is not an end result. Yoga is a process. It is a process of intense enthusiasm. It is the process of Yoga, the practice of Yoga that unites the mind-body-spirit system. What unites is not the exercises that you perform. This again will shock you. It is the intention.
You create a memory in your muscles and that gets embedded. It is essential to start any Yoga practice with a clear intention of what you wish: it may be health, it may be enlightenment; whatever it is make a positive intention. Before you perform the asana, the exercise, with full awareness of that intent visualise the posture you plan to adopt. Go through in your mind every single step of that asana. Then practice that asana.” To view the article in full paste this text into your browser. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/Opinion/Editorials/Yoga_Intense_
